Instructions for Quilt, Receiving Blanket, Bibs ad Burp Cloths
The complete layette includes: 45x60 quilt either tied or quilted, 2 receiving blankets 35x35, 2 bibs, 2 burp cloths and if you have fabric left over, you could make a fabric ball to match. We recommend you purchase fabric in a coordinating pattern for the back and front of the items.
Instructions for receiving blanket, bibs and burp cloths
You will need 2 pieces of flannel 45”x45”. Press the fold line so fabric will lie flat for cutting. Place pieces right sides together and cut off 10” down one side. Lengthwise of the grain. Cut 9” off the end of the remaining fabric, crosswise of the grain. This will leave a 35”x35” piece for the blanket. If you want to round the corners, place a saucer in each corner and cut around it.
Using the long 10” wide piece, cut two burp cloths. Cut two bibs out of the 9”x35” piece that was cut from the end.
Sew all around 1/2 inch from the edges of blanket and burps, and 1/4” seam on the big. Leave an opening for turning the item right side out. Press each item and top stitch or use a decorative stitch around the edges. Be sure to sew the opening shut where the item was turned. You may want to add some decorative touches to the bibs such as ribbon, ric-rac, buttons (please attach tightly), or appliques. Sew a small piece of Velcro to the end of the bib neck pieces for closure.
